Somebody made me cry (and Sneek Peek)

So I'm driving along in the van yesterday with Oldest Daughter and that 15 song by Taylor Swift comes on and I just start crying. Yes, I was bit hormonal anyway, but the blond-haired, Southern beauty made me cry. I am not usually a cryer.

After taking a deep breath, I was like, "I want to make someone cry, by golly!" With my writing, of course. So new writing goal: add a little heartstring that can be mercilessly pulled.

Side note: I kept the kids up last night because I knew Taylor was singing on DANCING WITH THE STARS. She was not that good, folks. Weird.

Sneek Peek: Will be recommending THE NO. 1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY in an upcoming Gazette column. Good stuff. Excellent writing.

Oh yes, I enjoyed the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency. But didn't love the subsequent novels, sad to say.

And, I wonder if it is Taylor Swift/the song, per se. Or, if it has more to do with driving with your oldest child. Realizing they are growing up and slipping away -- becoming beautiful and independent entities.

oh, man - now I'm going to start crying...

Good goal! I love it when good writing yanks at my emotions and is powerful enough to make me cry. Well, sort of love/hate it, you know :)

And cool, I have a copy of the "The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency" sitting here waiting to be read.

Send something to my wife. She cries every time she reads.

And I cry every time I hear Taylor Swift.

Hooey, I'm a blubbering reader. Just finished Art of Racing in the Rain last night and I'm STILL crying. Looking forward to your Detective Agency post.

TESS: Have you seen the HBO series of NO. 1? It's very well done. Don't know what exactly made me cry...maybe the combo of the song and my daughter?

DEB: Let me know what you think of NO. 1, when you get to it.

PMM: I used to cry every time I watched Oprah, but now she kind of it gets on my nerves (not sure why---would need therapy to figure out---hope she doesn't hold this comment against me and refuse to publicize by eventual bestseller) and I rarely have time to watch her anyway. Your wife seems nice.

MG: I cried for RACING. Very good book.

When I was pregnant, I'd watch the baby show on TLC and bawl every time the baby was born. Every time.
The last time I cried while reading was in the last Harry Potter.
I caught that Dancing show too and thought Taylor was a little off as well. I do like a few of her songs!

I'm a cryer. I'm definitely a cryer. Some of my favourite books are th ones that made me cry the most!

I just missed attending a talk by Alexander McCall at last year's Cape Town Book Fair. My husband's sister & brother-in-law had a stall there and she managed to attend. Said he was an absolute delight to listen to! Will be interesting to hear what you think of Precious Ramotswe!

Sorry, I left out the "Smith". That should be Alexander McCall Smith! :)

Oh! I'd love to hear McCall Smith...sounds like he's quite an interesting character...was a professor, I think, at the University of Botswana.
