I've got two ideas for YA novels. One is heavier on the thriller side, the other is heavier on romance/coming of age. Can't decide. Can't decide. Any thoughts? And what do you think will be the next big thing in YA--more vampires? science fiction? realistic? graphic novels?

I've been to a couple SCBWI conferences recently and editors and agents are saying Thrillers are the next big thing. That being said, don't feel like you have to write for trends =).
ANITA: You're right, of course. I think I'll get outlines done for both ideas and go from there.
Go romance. Go romance. Okay, I'm a sucker for a romance. There can't be enough of them in the world. My guess is for sci fi is to start trending soon.
I don't know what young people like now, let alone what they will like tomorrow.
LESLIE: I feel inclined to write sci fi all the time...I can think of so many stories. Buuut, I'm not that into sci fi. I like at least a little bit of romance in every story.
TONY: Good point!
I think both thrillers and romances will remain popular. You probably cannot go wrong with either genre.
Personally, I prefer thrillers.
I prefer realistic. Vampires, sci-fi and adventure doesn't interest me, and never did (with one exception)

CHARLIE! Hi! For me, my mood really dictates what I want to read. It's not so easy with writing, though. I mean, I read a book in a day, but writing a book...well, you know. Maybe I'll choose to work on a couple at a time. Probably one would win out after a couple weeks of that method.
COLD: I hope you and your family are well! What is your one exception?
